The circuit preacher will be riding in on horse-back to the Fifth Sunday Camp Meeting Sunday afternoon at Johnston Woods.

In years gone by, camp meetings were considered the “social events of the community.” In conjunction with its 175th anniversary, Broad Street United Methodist Church is planning the camp meeting with “every thing” old fashioned — music, dress and food.

The activities will begin at 4 p.m. with an evening meal at 5. Old-time hymns will be presented at 6 p.m., followed by a Vesper service.

The dress for the occasion is long dresses, bonnets and bib overalls, as well as appropriate summer attire. Prizes will be awarded for the best attire.

Attendees should bring a covered dish for the evening meal. Beverages will be furnished.

A spokesman noted the four services will be brought together in one setting so “we can get to know one another again.”

The camp meeting will be held at the Johnson Pavilion in Johnston Woods.
