Business owners in two areas of the city discovered damage and loss Monday after burglars struck in a wave of break-ins and theft. Approximately 10 businesses were burglarized.

According to Cleveland Police detective Matt Jenkins, he and detective Steve Ross, both of Cleveland Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, are in the process of obtaining video security images of the “smash-and-grab” burglars who used objects such as flower pots to break through storefront windows to gain entry. Jenkins and Ross believe the same burglars struck both areas. Video footage was captured on at least three cameras at the business locations, according to Jenkins.

Once inside, the burglars took jewelry from one store in Spring Creek and other items from other businesses located in the retail section of the community.

Spring Creek is located on Veterans Memorial Highway (APD 40).

Burglars then changed locations, hitting Shane’s Rib Shack, Fusion Tanning, Cupcake Divas, Oreck, Salon West and Cleveland NonSurgical Clinic.

Cash and other items were missing from the businesses, according to Jenkins’ preliminary reports.

Officials believed the burglaries occurred during a three-hour period of time during the early morning hours Monday.

“We believe right now that there are two or more people involved,” Jenkins said.

Anyone having information or who may have seen suspicious activity at the businesses on Frontage Road or Veterans Memorial Parkway is asked to contact CPD Criminal Investigations Division at its hotline number, 728-4636, or call 728-7311 and press “0” for a dispatcher.

Additional information will be released by CPD as it becomes available.

“We expect to be able to provide images of the perpetrators to the media later today,” Jenkins added.
