Drums Alive is different from every other workout you have tried before — capturing the essence of exercise movement to work the muscles and improve both physical and mental fitness, and combining it with fun rhythms to deliver real fitness results.

Drums Alive is both a brain exercise and an aerobic workout that utilizes a combination of physical repetition and mental concentration.

“The primary goal of this unique activity is to create a ‘whole mind, whole body’ experience for participants. Each instructor-led class involves a set of drumsticks, a stabilized exercise ball for each person and powerful music with drumming rhythms,” says Princess Snyder, group fitness director for the Cleveland Family YMCA.

Each Drums Alive workout is designed to provide participants a healthy way to release aggression and decrease stress. Workouts focus on neurological and cognitive applications as well as socialization to improve motivation and fitness adherence, added Snyder.

This new specialty program offered at ‘The Y’ is also open to non-members but YMCA members receive a discounted rate and early registration advantage.
