There will be a new workshop starting in September for patrons with devices that download e-books. If you have an IPad, Sony Reader, Nook e-reader or other such device that is compatible with our site and are having trouble downloading books at the library, this is the workshop for you. (Check the website to see if your device is compatible with our OverDrive program.)

Learn how to download the library’s collection of e-books for free. The workshops will be held Sept. 9, 17 and 23 at noon in the Computer Classroom located on the second floor of the main library. Bring your device with you to the workshop and start enjoying free books from the library.

As a convenience to our computer patrons, the Reference Department will now be selling flash drives for $7. Stop by the Non-Fiction Desk on the second floor to make your purchases.

The Children’s Library is planning new events for the fall. Sept. 10 will begin Family Story Time at 2 p.m. Grandparents Day will be held on Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room.

Children 12 and under are invited with their grandparents to this fun afternoon filled with stories, cupcake decorating and fun photos, as well as an old-fashioned sing-a-long. Call the Children’s desk to sign up today.

Learn something new today with the library’s new database, Universal Class. There are over 500 online courses available. Go to the library’s website and click on Internet Resources to view this great new database.

The library is sponsoring the AARP Driver Safety Program, to be held Sept. 8 and 9 from 9 until 1 p.m. AARP developed this eight-hour classroom refresher to help drivers 50 years and older improve their skills and prevent crashes.

For more information or to register for the course, call Diana at 423-650-6706 or register at the library. The fee for the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Pardon our dust as we get ready to welcome Lasater’s Coffee & Tea to our library. The new shop should be up and running in mid to late September.

The library will be closed on Sept. 5 for observance of Labor Day.
