The summer heat may be lingering, schools are in session for a new school year, and the 2011 flu season is just around the corner.

The Bradley County Health Department has announced that it is ready to offer flu vaccine to area residents.

A flu vaccine clinic was held at the Bradley County Health Department Thursday. To schedule an appointment for a flu shot, call the health department at 728-7020.

“It takes about two weeks to be protected after you get the flu vaccine,” said Bradley County Department director Eloise Waters. “Therefore, it is a good idea to get the vaccine as soon as it’s available.

“We will continue to vaccinate residents through the winter, or as long as we have vaccine available,” continued the county’s health director.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends( http://www.cdc.gov/flu /about/qa/fluvaccine.html) that everyone six months of age and older get their yearly flu vaccine as soon as vaccines become available in their community.

Flu shots and FluMist nasal spray vaccine are being provided at the health department.
