Students cleaned windows, display cases and wiped down lockers. Other students pulled weeds from the front and rear courtyards. There was a “lemony” smell permeating throughout the school as students cleaned and dusted. Students also worked on cleaning the bleachers and hallways.
Jeff Elliott, the principal at Cleveland Middle School, explained that the purpose of the day of service is to provide the students ownership of their campus and to serve others. The students were allowed to wear a modified dress code during their grade level cleaning activity.
“It was fun to help keep my school clean while hanging out with my friends,” sixth-grade student Jon LaVallie said.
