James L. York, 85, of Cleveland went home to his Heavenly Father Monday, Sept. 19, 2011.

He was a lifelong member of Chestuee United Methodist Church.

He was a well-known dairy farmer; he also drove a Bradley County School bus for 39 years while he hauled three generations of children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.E. (Liege) York and Maude Dixon York; his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Hall York; grandson, Stephen Eric York; brothers: J.D. York, Frank York, Ralph York and Sammy York; and sisters: Edna Madison, Pearl Arms and Ruby Boyer.

Survivors include one son, Dennis York and his wife, Barbara York, of Cleveland; one daughter, Dana York Burgess and her husband, Steve Burgess, of Cleveland; two grandchildren: Stephanie Everett and her husband, Greg, and Cindy Griggs and her husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren: Caden and Carly Everett and Makayla Brooks, all of Cleveland; sister, Dora Lightfoot of Cleveland; a very special friend, Anderson “Jute” Miller of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chestuee Cemetery with Roger York, Jerry Bishop, Danny Hutson, Ricky Hutson, Chris Allen and Roland Reynolds serving as pallbearers. Anderson “Jute” Miller will serve as honorary pallbearer.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
