The club’s goal is to raise money for kids, just like local Boys and Girls Club members, who live in a poor community in Africa. Many of these kids die from infections caused by cuts on their feet, due to having no shoes and limited healthcare.
Club leaders said when the idea was discussed with club members, they were very excited to be able to help kids their own age in another country.
Members 6 through 17 are raising money to help purchase shoes for these African kids. They’re collecting money from family members, teachers, friends, and others to sponsor a Barefoot Dance-A-Thon.
This special event is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 30,at the Boys and Girls Club, Tucker Unit.
The child who raises the most money will have the opportunity to put a pie in a staff member’s face.
For members unable to get sponsors, they will be able to attend the event but will be charged a $2 admission fee. Activities will include music, dancing, games and fun.
