Before play started, Soddy-Daisy was riding a 15-game regular season winning streak in District 5-AAA play that the Cleveland squad was hoping to undo.
The Lady Trojans struck quickly, finding the back of the Cleveland net 17 minutes into the match when Ally Fien got one past the Cleveland keeper.
It was far from out of reach for the Lady Raiders, and in the second half the squad had many opportunities to control the match and finish the Soddy-Daisy streak.
In the final 40 minutes Cleveland volleyed six shots at the Lady Trojans goal with one striking the crossbar. However, ultimately the Soddy-Daisy streak continues.
The Lady Trojans have not lost to a 5-AAA opponent since 2009, but the Lady Raiders have always played the squad hard and came within inches of walking off the pitch with the win.
Cleveland took seven shots on goal during the game. Keeper Jenna Scoggins had seven saves on the night.
The Lady Raiders carry a record of 6-6-1 overall and 3-2 in district play.
They are in action again Thursday, playing host to Notre Dame with varsity action starting at 7 p.m. and the JV playing at 5 p.m.
Notre Dame is also coming off a 1-0 loss and is 4-7-1 on the year.
