Floyd Wade Sr., 85, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 at the family residence.
He was the son of the late Ola Mikels Wade and Charlie Wade. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Bertha Wade Bishop; his brothers: Theddus, James Ira and Lawrence Wade and Johnny Nichols; and his son, Gene Shaw.
He was a U. S. Navy World War II veteran, who served aboard the USS Santee.
He retired from the city of Cleveland in 1985, having served as a city police officer, as a Bradley County Sheriff’s deputy, as captain with the Cleveland Fire Department and with the Public Works Department.
He was a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge and a member of North Cleveland Baptist Church.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 36 years, Dianne Wade, of Cleveland; his children: Floyd Wade Jr. and his wife, Edna, Susan Wade, Angelia Johnson and Kathy Liner and her husband, Steve; his grandchildren: Ben and Nick Wade, Kimberley Houston, Isabella Liner, Wesley Johnson, Stephen Rupe, Tim Wade and Melissa Roach; his great-grandchildren; his special lifelong friend, Don Sharp; and several nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted tonight at 7 from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted Friday morning, Oct. 28, 2011, at 10:30 from the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
Wesley Johnson, Kim Cathey, Mark Cathey, Tab Cathey, Mitchell Gentry, Roy McLain Jr., John McClain and Jack Walker will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests memorials be made to the North Cleveland Baptist Church Building Fund, 2815 North Ocoee St., Cleveland, TN 37311.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
