A 12-screen theater complex at Bradley Square Mall is expected to open in fall 2012, according to an announcement issued Thursday by Carmike Cinemas.

The new theater named the Carmike 12 will feature 12 screens with total seating for over 2,000 guests who will enjoy state-of-the-art “BIGD” auditorium, Carmike’s premium theater environment.

Bradley Square Mall GM Stacia Shahan said bringing a theater group of Carmike’s high quality to the mall and Cleveland area is very important and applauded Carmike Cinemas for its commitment.

“This will be a major amenity for Cleveland and the greater Bradley County area and a major addition to the region’s economy,” she said. “The addition of Carmike is a significant component of a major redevelopment we have planned for Bradley Square. The redevelopment will greatly enhance the ‘mall experience’ for all patrons and will be a huge benefit for residents throughout the trade area.

“Bradley Square Mall will truly be a ‘one stop,’ a must-experience destination providing excellent dining, shopping and entertainment venues for patrons of all ages and interests.”

Carmike Cinema CEO David Passman said in the statement the complex will provide the ultimate entertainment experience with the centerpiece being large format digital with bigger screens, bigger sound, and luxurious theater seating for cutting-edge presentation.

“With the opening of the new location, the Cleveland area joins a select and growing list of communities across the nation offering Carmike theatergoers the exciting new “BIGD” format,” he said. “Expected to draw area moviegoers to the “BIGD” Experience will be the totally enhanced theater amenities offered by a wall-to-wall screen measuring over 60 feet wide and three stories tall, boosted by the latest in 7.1 Surround Sound and digital projection of both 2D and 3D features.

“In technical terms, Carmike’s “BIGD” Digital Experience is powered by a cutting-edge Christie Brilliant 3-D flash projector. Images are projected onto a colossal wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor screen. The end result is a light output of 30,000 lumens, creating a picture quality with noticeably higher resolution than HD.”

“We appreciate the support our customers have always provided the mall and we are excited as we continue to strengthen our bond with the community.”

Bradley Square Mall provides Carmike’s new theater location a strategic high-traffic retail center with more than 50 national, regional and local retailers and eateries, including anchors Belk, JCPenney, Sears and Kmart as well as American Eagle Outfitters, Aéropostale, Bath & Body Works, maurices, Finish Line, Hibbett Sports and others.

Carmike Cinemas is a U.S. leader in digital cinema and 3-D cinema deployments and one of the nation’s largest motion picture exhibitors. As of June 30, Carmike had 235 theaters with 2,215 screens in 36 states.

Carmike’s digital cinema footprint reached 2,083 screens, including 207 theaters with 724 screens that are also equipped for 3-D. Carmike’s focus for its theater locations is small to mid-sized communities.
