Edgar (Ed) William Blackwell, 83, of Decatur, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, in an Athens nursing home.

Having work most of his life for himself, he was well known for his sawmill and bulldozer work.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine Blackwell; parents, Jessie and Alley Morgan Blackwell; and sisters: Norma Jean Davis and Eva May Raley.

Survivors include his sons: Carl Blackwell, Ralph Blackwell and Larry (Kim) Blackwell; brothers: Clyde Blackwell of Arizona and Leroy Blackwell of Cleveland; grandchildren: James (Bonnie) Blackwell, Edward (Ashley) Blackwell, T.J. Davis, Starla Rayley and Daniel Raley; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ralph Buckner funeral Home of Etowah followed by the funeral in the chapel at 8 p.m.

A graveside service with a white dove release ceremony will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Lakewood Memory Gardens East in Chattanooga.
