Last weekend’s auction at the Athens Indoor/Outdoor Flea Market was a huge success with more than $6,100 raised from donated items.

The top fundraiser was a 2001 Windstar, donated by Don Ledford Auto Park. The vehicle was purchased by Mildred and Curtis Culberson.

Bill Samsel and his wife, Mary, owners of the flea market, sponsored the auction and will use proceeds to assist McMinn County area veterans. Samsel urged family members of veterans with needs to call him at 423-326-8769 with candidates for assistance.

Samsel added the auction was just a start of a yearlong fundraising effort to assist veterans.

Samsel said he is working closely with Debbie Cox at the McMinn County Veterans Affairs Office in Athens.
