Joyce “Joy” Austin, 67, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in a Chattanooga hospital.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dale Thomas Crook; her father, W.T. “Bill” Crook; and nephew, Jeremy Malone.
She was actively involved with Fraternal Order of Police in fundraising and Shop with a Cop. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, making stuffed animals and taking care of people. She was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Calvin “Jack” Austin, of Cleveland; one daughter, Angela Rymer and her husband, Bobby, of Cleveland; one son, Galen Austin and his wife, Kathy, of Old Fort; two grandchildren: Coty Rymer and Caleb Austin; two sisters: Jean Malone and her husband, Junior, and Joan Hutton and her husband, Bobby, all of Cleveland; two brothers: Stanley Crook of Ooltewah and Steve Crook of Old Fort; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, from the Wildwood Avenue Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Steve Beavers and her nephews, Jonathan Tyndall and Michael Tyndall, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Steve Wright, James Malone, Jonathan Tyndall, Lamar Crook, Michael Tyndall and Coty Rymer serving as pallbearers, and Caleb Austin as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and Saturday from noon to the hour of the service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
