Sylvia Bettina Dixson, 57, a resident of Ocoee, passed away in the presence of her family on Tuesday night, Dec. 13, 2011, at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah.

She will always be fondly remembered and deeply missed by family, friends, her church, and her community.

She was a beloved member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Ocoee, where she was a longtime children’s Sunday school teacher and was instrumental in their vacation Bible school ministry.

She was especially fond of the children and senior adults at Smyrna and loved bringing them together.

She was active in Polk County High School’s band boosters and was a fixture at the annual Polk County Fair. She also formerly served as a president of the Ocoee Ruritan Club. She was known as a loving, friendly soul who never met a stranger and had a huge love for animals.

She was employed at American Uniform Co. for 32 years.

She was a daughter of the late Chass and Ruby Dixson. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Wesley Ervin Dixson; and a special niece, Dineen Dixon.

She is survived by one sister, Lydia and husband, Clyde Nail; two brothers: Darvin and wife, Loretta Dixon, and Leon and wife, Dale Dixson; three aunts: Waunetta Ledford, Frances Rush, and Alice Goins; three nephews: Tony Dixon, Stan Allen, and Shawn Allen; two nieces: Leslie Hicks and Lindsey Hawn; four great-nephews; three great-nieces; and a host of other extended family members.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Smyrna Baptist Church, 209 Smyrna Road in Ocoee, TN 37361 with the Revs. Jimmy Parm and David Evans officiating.

The body will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Randy Barnes, Billy Goode, Shawn Allen, Stan Allen, Stanley Allen, and Deran Dixon serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 8 at the Smyrna Baptist Church.
