Some 876 boxes were given out Saturday, according to Todd Duggan, fund coordinator.
The distribution went very smoothly, he said, in part due to the assistance of individual and groups of volunteers.
He said, the football players from Bradley Central High School came out early to volunteer in giving the boxes of food out. The boxes were given out at Tri-State Warehouse.
Also assisting were the Motorcycle Ministry from Grace Point, coordinated by Bill Grey and Phil Griffin. The Grace Point volunteers delivered 76 boxes to shut-ins in the community.
Duggan said they also had some football players from Ocoee Middle School helping.
On Friday morning, volunteers from First Baptist Church packed the boxes in preparation for the Saturday distribution.
Although the goal had been to deliver 1,000 boxes of food staples, Duggan was pleased with the amount the Basket Fund was able to distribute.
The goal was to raise $28,000 for the boxes. To date, a total of $14,775 has been raised. Some $3,200 was collected this week.
Duggan noted that donation cards are available at First Tennessee and at Cooke’s Food Store. Individuals wishing to contribute may do so at either location or by sending funds to First Tennessee Bank, P.O. Box 4880, Cleveland, TN 37320-48880 or dropping off at First Tennessee Bank on Raider Drive.
