The Polk County Adult Education program is strongly urging anyone who has not completed their high school education to do so now.

If it’s something you have put off there is no better time to get started than now. In today’s business and economic society, those without a diploma or GED will have few opportunities to excel in the job market. We know of employees who have stayed loyal to a factory for 30 years only to find themselves out of work.

Anyone who has ever watched the news or read the paper lately knows the unexpected and uncertain times are upon us now. And, if someone is out of work due to a plant closing or down-sizing, chances of getting hired somewhere else are next to none without a high school education or GED.

There’s not many things that are free today, but our classes are. All a person needs to do is call and schedule an appointment to come in for orientation and testing. After this you will help set your schedule to get started in class. It does take some dedication on the student’s part to reach their goal in a reasonable time. Polk AE is a small program compared to those in other areas but is getting good results. In the last three years it helped 170 students pass the GED, several went to job training through the Career Center and some went on to either a technology school or community college. So, if getting a GED is something that’s been put on the back burner please call and make this your new year’s resolution.

Polk County Adult Education operates on the same schedule as the school system, so it will be closed for the Christmas holidays through — Jan. 3, 2012. If anyone is interested in the program, please call 338-5125.

This project is funded by an agreement with Tennessee Division of Adult Education and Tennessee Workforce Development.
