Wilkinson and Abrahamyan are both students in Lee University’s School of Music. Wilkinson is a junior piano performance major, studying under Ning An and taking secondary lessons with Dr. Gloria Chien. He is married to Melanie Smith.
Abrahamyan is a senior music major. She placed third in the 2010 Stillman College’s Zelpha Wells Piano Competition for Collegiate Artists in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The competition’s five winners, including Wilkinson and Abrahamyan, will perform a concerto with the Southern Adventist Symphony Orchestra on Jan. 29, 2012, in Collegedale.
For the concerto, Wilkinson will be playing the first movement of Rachmaninoff Concert No. 1. Abrahamyan will perform the first movement of the Scriabin Piano Concerto.
Southern Adventist University established the competition in 1990 in an effort to feature performances by talented young musicians.
Applicants were required to submit a recording of their music. From those applicants, a select number of finalists were chosen to perform a live audition with the orchestra to determine the five winners.
