He was of the Baptist faith, an avid fisherman, and loved his family.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic and worked in the motor pool with the Bradley County Sheriff's Department for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Goldman Banks and Elsie A. Huffman Secress; mother of his children, Inez Banks; his second wife, Geraldine Banks; son, Henry Banks; a great-granddaughter, Kayla York; and a great-grandson, Fulton York.
He is survived by his four children: Louise Maddux and husband, Dennis, of Old Fort, Irene Jones and husband, Bud, of Charleston, Glen Banks and wife, Holly, of Harrison and Robert Banks and wife, Dot, of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Julie Graham of Ringgold, Ga., Rebecca Luciotti of Gadsden, Ala., and Polly Masters of Atlanta, Ga.; cousin, Katie Clements, who he loved as a sister, of Calhoun, Ga.; and also several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Jenkins officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens concluding with a white dove release ceremony.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Shane Maddux, Greg Banks, Dennis Maddux, David Jones, Brian Banks and Leon Banks.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
