David Swafford, 83, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in a local hospital.

He retired from Maytag after 31 years of employment.

He was a member of Center Point Baptist church in Charleston and enjoyed fishing and working on the farm.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Dean Swafford; parents, W.O. and Flora Glenn Clark Swafford; sister, Elizabeth Vassey; brothers: Vastal Swafford and Ellis Swafford; granddaughter, Tara Hooper; and son-in-law, Terry L. Murphy.

Survivors include his wife, Sybil Sprayberry Swafford; daughters: Judy Walker (Bobby) of Murphy, N.C., and Renee’ Murphy of Cleveland; sister, Willie Lee Swafford of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Robin Bowling, Toshia Worley, and Stephanie Womac Withrow; nine great-grandchildren: Joshua Hooper, Gabriel Bowling, Megan Worley, Tara Bowling, Robert “R.M.” Worley, Macy Worley, Gabrielle Schirmann, Cheyenee Schirmann, and Brittany Withrow; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Grissom Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Underwood officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Brian Bowling, Mikey Worley, Mike Worley, Mitchell McEntire, Matt Withrow and Jerry Samples serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
