Dee H. Frisbee, 85, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at the family residence surrounded by his family.

He was a loving, caring and giving father, husband and grandfather.

He was a proud American, a member of the “Greatest Generation” and a World War II veteran of the Army, of which he was very proud.

He was a member of Central Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school many years. He was a former teacher at Arnold School and Mayfield School and the principal at Templeton Hill and Cleveland Junior High School. After his retirement he was in charge of JPTA at Cleveland State Community College.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He was a lifetime member of the NEA. He was a board member at Cleveland Housing Authority and the Cleveland Public Library. He was instrumental in forming the Tennessee Principals Study Council.

His hobbies included traveling, following the U.T. Vols and Atlanta Braves, woodworking and antique restoration. He especially loved his “Panera Coffee Club” and all his friends there, many of whom he just met in the last few months.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.P. and Maggie Frisbee; brothers: J.C., Pat and Roy; and sisters, Inez and Dorothy Frisbee.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene Estes Frisbee of Cleveland; sister, Eloise Snody of Farmington Hills, Mich.; daughters: Jill and husband, Ted Sullivan, of Nashville, DeeAnn and husband, Deane Gionta, of Knoxville, Lisa and husband, Bob Benedict, of Ringgold, Ga.; grandchildren: David Gionta and Meredith Gionta, both of Knoxville and Reagan Benedict of Ringgold; three sisters-in-law: Sue SantaAna and husband, Raul, Annette Estes and Jean Davis; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Central Church of Christ with Minister Tom Harrison officiating.

Interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family and friends will assemble at the funeral home for departure at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Tommy Jones, David Allen, Tommy Allen, Ted Sullivan, Deane Gionta, David Gionta, Bob Benedict and Mike Adams will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Payne, Ed Allen, Warren Brewster, Larry Speight, Gene Officer and Tom Butler.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
