She was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel Edmonds; and her brother, Lawrence Edmonds of Beckley, W.Va.
She was born in Beckley and moved to Niota at a very young age. She married James Moore and moved to Athens. They were married for 51 years and to this union were born three daughters.
She was a caring mother, a homemaker, and also worked part time as a housekeeper for several bankers, lawyers, and CPAs in the Athens area. She was a volunteer at the Better Living Center in Athens, where she was well known and loved by many. She was a vital member of St. Mark AME Zion Church were she enjoyed serving as a missionary, deaconess, stewardess and Sunday school teacher under the leadership of the Rev. Herman Poindexter.
To those she most loved, she was a family matriarch, had a strong will, a quick wit, and a kindred spirit. She loved her church, her church family and going shopping. She was an amazing lady and a lovely person to know. She left us too soon, but not unprepared. We, her loved ones, find solace in knowing that she will always be in our hearts to guide us.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. James Moore Jr.; three daughters: Glendora “Patty” (Ernest) Powell, Jameszina “Nina” (Jeffery) Melton, and Barbara “Babs” Crowder; her mother, Julia P. Edmonds of Life Care Center of Athens; one brother, Norman Edmonds of Texas; one sister, Barbara Ann Hall of Cleveland, Ohio; two adopted children: Durcella Smith of New York, Kim Edmonds, of Texas; one loving sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Edmonds of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a special childhood friend, Lee Smith of Beckley ; five grandchildren: James L.
