The Boys and Girls Club recently joined Lee University’s Frontline program to give local high school students a real college experience in hopes to encourage the students to further their education.
According to Amanda Downey, who works with the Tucker Unit, 19 juniors and seniors from the Johnson Teen Center were welcomed by Phil Cook and President Conn. Each student then previewed a class of their choice before having lunch in the campus dining hall.
The students then took a tour of the campus guided by a current Lee student.
“Many of our teens were excited about the possibility of attending Lee. They really seemed to enjoy the students, staff and especially the tour of the campus,” said Shara Smith, staff at the Johnson Teen Center .
Professors from all majors were available to speak to the students for advisement, career options and major requirements to prepare the soon to be graduates.
The students closed out the trip with a performance with the Voices of Lee.
