It’s been a long time since Bradley Central has been involved in a region wrestling tournament with no wrestlers ranked No. 1 in the state. The Bears have two wrestlers close to the top of the brackets for tonight’s region 3 battle in Jim Smiddy Arena. Dakota Ream and Patrick Benson are ranked No. 2 at 113 pounds and 285 pounds respectively. But, they could not match archrival Cleveland’s numbers when it comes to the latest rankings by Tennesseewrestling.com.

The Blue Raiders will send four No. 1s to Bradley Central Friday evening to begin the two-day Region 4 tournament. The top four wrestlers from each weight class will move on to next week’s traditional tournament in Franklin Thursday through Saturday.

Bradley Central, Cleveland and Walker Valley boast a combined total of 19 state-ranked wrestlers to the region fight who will battle for a spot in the state tournament. The Blue Raiders send the most with nine. Bradley Central will put seven ranked wrestlers on the mat and Walker Valley will take three to the tournament.

For Cleveland, freshman Chris DeBien is the state’s No. 1-ranked wrestler at 106 pounds. Sophomore Austin Stevison follows with a No. 1 ranking at 113 and junior Austin Oliver is ranked first at 120. Senior Blue Raider Jesse Jones completes the list holding the No. 1 spot at 182.

The Bears are certainly not without a number of state-ranked grapplers. Junior Dakota Ream is ranked No. 2 in the state at 113 pounds and 285-pound wrestler Patrick Benson, a Bradley Central senior is also No. 2.
