A native of Meigs County and a longtime resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late James Jacob and Hattie Ethel Hood Moon.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Rector Shelton Sr.; one son, Victor Shelton; three sisters: Agatha, Margaret and Dorothy Moon; and five brothers: James, Harvey, John A., Nathaniel and Agnew Moon.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Calhoun.
Survivors include three daughters: Maxine Orr of Lawrenceville, Ga., Sue Keeter of Lebanon, and Phyllis Kellam of Duluth, Ga.; special friend of the family, David Taylor of Duluth; three sons and two daughters-in-law: James David Shelton and Roy Jr. and Wilma Shelton, all of Calhoun, and Phillip Ray and Cindy Shelton of Charleston; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Julia Maddix of Oak Ridge and Mabel and Allen McKinney of Nashville; and one brother, Robert Lee Moon of Decatur.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home in Athens with Pastors Hugh Bryan and Ron Sorah officiating.
Interment will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
