All proceeds go to the Fraternal Order and are used in various ways to help the EMS workers and the community.
The cook-off will be held Friday, 6 p.m., at the Museum Center at Five Points.
Chili cook-off Rules: This event will consist of four awards. Two prizes will be awarded in the People’s Choice Award category; runner up and first place.
These will be selected by votes purchased at the door.
The Judges Choice Award will also consist of first place and runner up.
Each team will make a minimum of 5 gallons of chili. The chili can consist of meat, beans, vegetables and spices. Wild game will not be allowed. Chili will be prepared ahead of time and served hot at the event.
Each team must provide a way for keeping the chili at a safe serving temperature. The event will be held indoors so propane or open flame will not be permitted. Each team is individually responsible for the safe and sanitary condition of their chili.
People’s Choice
Votes can be purchased at the door. Each vote entitles the individuals to a sample of each team’s chili. Each competing team will be provided with a voting box labeled with the team’s number.
When each chili is sampled, the vote can be placed in the selected team’s box. At the end of the event the votes will be tallied and the team with the most votes will be awarded the People’s Choice Award.
Judges Choice
Each team will submit a sample of chili for the judge’s choice. The samples will be numbered to ensure that the judges are unable to determine who made which chili.
After each chili has been sampled, the judges will vote for the chili they like best. The chili receiving the most votes will win the Judge’s Choice Award.
Entry fee will be $30 per team. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each category. Votes for people’s choice will be $5 for the first vote $3 for any additional vote.
