John Paul Johnson, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Garden Plaza of Cleveland.

He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Morgan County to Lee and Dixie (Hendon) Johnson.

He was a former commander of DAV and an American Legion member of the Hartselle, Ala., chapter, where he was a former commander also. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a former employee of Rust Engineering as a mechanical engineer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Johnson, of Cleveland; three sons: John Johnson of Florida, William Hendon of Tennessee and Donald Johnson of Florida; four daughters: Mary Scheinke of Ohio, Brenda Allen of Decatur, Ala., Laura Nelson of Tennessee and Teresa Cooper of Florida; and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, Ala., with Brother Michael Gunter officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends

Interment will be in Hartselle City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
