The second annual Getting To Know You Spring Tea, sponsored by Women of Ruth International, will be held March 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Church of God at Jerusalem Acres, 1826 Dalton Pike, Cleveland.

Sonja Luckie, director of The Women of Ruth International in Cleveland, said, “As a result of the first ‘Tea,’ we have been meeting with and fellowshipping with the women who attended the tea. We have also established a wonderful rapport with other churches. Women of all ages and all faiths are invited to attend the Spring Tea with the hope of strengthening our community.”

Luckie said the group is putting emphasis on churches getting together and doing positive things for the community.

“This is a way for everyone to interact,” she said. “There are things in Cleveland that the community needs, especially for the children. By getting together and sharing ideas — this will be a good avenue for addressing those needs. We’re inviting all women — whether they go to church or not — to participate.”

“God compels us to reach out to others and that’s what we’re doing,” said Arthella Mizell, who is on the decorating committee.

Marlene M. Carney, who serves as secretary for Women of Ruth International, said, “Jesus did the things pleasing to God and that’s what we’re trying to do by inviting the community, including the churches, to come together and fellowship.”

The all-ladies event will include refreshments, fellowship and a special guest speaker, Peggy Meyer, chairman of the Bradley County Pachyderm club.

Henrietta Wilson, assistant director, said “It’s an inspiration that our community has wonderful church people who — when you talk to them on the phone — they talk about the Lord and are happy to help you. That’s what we want to do —help people and have some fun in the Lord.”

Lukie said, “We’re asking everyone to RSVP by March 12, if possible, to enable us to prepare sufficiently. We’re really excited to be sponsoring this event.”

Carney added, “We love people and we want to fellowship with all the new women who are moving into our area, as well as all the others.”
