Reservations for the United Way of Bradley County Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet should be made by Thursday, March 15.

The event will be held on March 20 at the Life Care Centers of America’s Professional Development Center on Keith Street, with dinner beginning at 6 p.m.

That meeting will begin with a special recognition of Brenda Abel, who retired from United Way after 36 years of service. She had served as president and CEO since 1996.

“We are looking forward to honoring Brenda for her contributions to our community through her service with United Way of Bradley County,” Terry Henry, United Way board chairman, said. “Her accomplishments and the accomplishments of United Way during her time there are truly amazing.”

Along with the special recognition for Abel, the William F. Johnson Sr. Community Service Award will be presented at the banquet. This is the highest honor bestowed to a volunteer by United Way of Bradley County.

Companies that served as Pacesetter and Challenger firms during the 2011 campaign will be recognized, as will volunteers who served in many different official roles during the campaign.

The “Big Chief” Award will also be presented to the Campaign chair – either Tanya Mazzolini or Brenda Lawson – whose team raised the most in pledges per goal in the friendly competition. Divisions are divided between the Campaign Co-Chairs (with each having eight divisions), and when last checked, the difference between the two teams was less than half a percentage point.

The Awards Banquet also serves as an announcement and installation for the 2012 United Way Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Tickets for the Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet are $25 each, and are on sale now. Reservations are required. Invitations for the event have been mailed, but if you did not receive an invitation and would like to attend, contact the United Way office at 479-2020 or 472-9876, or email us at unitedwaybc@yahoo.com.
