The air around the northern section of Bradley County will be filled with the sound of golf clubs meeting golf balls as the Lee men’s and women’s teams play host to the second annual Lee University Invitational.

Eleven men’s college squads with join two Lee clubs and seven women’s teams will challenge the Lady Flames at the Cleveland Country Club on Monday and Tuesday in the 36-hole event. Tee times will be between 9 a.m. and noon each day.

“We are excited to be hosting the tournament again,” Lee coach John Maupin said. “This year we have made it a co-ed event and will be hosting some of the top men’s and women’s teams in the Southeast.” The Lady Flames are ranked second in the preseason poll and the men fifth.

It is always great to be at home and Maupin expressed that feeling. “We are grateful to be able to host this event at one of our home courses. The golf course is in excellent shape right now, so I think it will be two great days of golf.”

In two short years Maupin has been able to assemble a top-notch field. “I am happy with the field we were able to put together,” he noted. “Ten of the 19 participating teams are currently ranked or receiving votes.”

The men’s division will feature Tennessee Wesleyan, defending champions University of Cumberlands, Campbellsville, Holly Cross (Ind.), Marian College (Ind.), Southern Wesleyan, Faulkner, Lindsey Wilson, Bryan College, William Carey, Reinhardt College and two Lee squads.

Women’s play will see Shorter, Cumberlands, Lindsey Wilson, Campbellsville, Tennessee Wesleyan, Faulkner and Bryan testing the Lady Flames.

The public is invited to come out and enjoy some outstanding college golf play.
