An advocate for the local public safety and emergency services community passed away early this morning.

Betty McGrady Ballard was the vice president of Cleveland 100 and a retiree from the banking industry.

Ballard and her husband, Richard, continued the work begun by her late husband, Courtney McGrady, and Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland, both of whom established Cleveland 100 in 1996.

Courtney McGrady passed away suddenly in 2003.

The organization was formed and co-founded by Courtney McGrady and Rowland to provide financial assistance for the families of emergency services personnel whose lives are taken in the line of duty.

The former Betty McGrady worked at Cleveland National Bank, then retired from its successor, First American Bank, after 30 years of service in the banking industry.

Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory has charge of arrangements.
