Despite coming out of the gate strong the Mustangs faltered down the stretch, allowing the Owls to come back and steal the lead twice, the dust finally settling on an 11-10 Ooltewah victory.
Walker Valley jumped out early, knocking a run across in the first and then tacking on four more to open the second inning.
But, then the Owls struck back. In their own half of the second Ooltewah went to town on the ’Stangs, bringing eight men back to home and stealing the lead.
With the Owls now leading 7-5 the Mustangs rallied to knock in two RBIs in the top of the fourth and three more in the top of the fifth to bring things to a 10-7 Walker Valley advantage.
Yet, once again the lead was squandered as Ooltewah drove in three more during their half of the fifth, and capped things with a walkoff hit in the bottom of the seventh to take the game 11-10.
The Mustangs will take some time off, coming back to the diamond on Monday to face off against the Raiders at Cleveland High School, before playing host to Cleveland the next afternoon.
