On Thursday, March 29, Lee will host its Jazz Combos Concert in the Conn Center at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Paula Wyatt and Shawn Perkinson. This concert will feature four different student groups, each with their own style of two-tune performances.

The group will be performing several pieces composed by Paula Wyatt. These pieces include “Off-Kilter,” “Just for You,” “On the Move,” and “Rooster’s in the Henhouse … Again.” She also arranged Stanley Turrentine’s “Sugar” and “Pent-Up House” by Sonny Rollins that will be performed during the evening.

Perkinson’s arrangements will also be featured at the concert. These pieces include “Chameleon” by Herbie Hancock and “Pat Metheny’s Blues” by Pat Metheny.

This group ranges in experience from students just beginning to those who have been with the program for several years. Two of the combos contain a rhythm section and horns, one consists of a guitar ensemble with bass and drums, and the other is a full rhythm section, a trumpet, a saxophone, and a vocalist.

“What a variety for an evening of entertainment,” said Wyatt. “Jazz music has more variety than any other genre of music I know.”

This event is free and open to the public.
