In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Family Violence Program will hold a “Healing Through Art” display at the Cleveland Public Library, from April 15-21. Works to be exhibited were created by survivors of sexual assault and/or survivors’ friends and family.

The Family Violence Program handles a large caseload of women and men who are currently or once were in situations of domestic and sexual violence. Bradley and Polk County see a high number of such instances every year, and an even larger number go unreported.

The “Healing Through Art” display is an opportunity for those who have survived to speak boldly about their journey and the courage it took. It is also for the community at large to be made aware of and informed on an issue that is greatly misunderstood and affects many.

In addition, the Family Violence Program will hold a community meeting April 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the library’s community meeting room. Child care will be provided that night.

This is a great opportunity to become educated on the myths and facts surrounding this crime, and proper ways to respond and help a survivor.

Participants will also hear from a sexual assault survivor as she shares her experiences in the journey toward healing.
