BENTON — The Polk County Lady Wildcats came out in a big way against their District 5-AA rivals, Sweetwater, Friday evening.
Ten hits combined to bury the visiting Sweetwater crew, and despite a comeback attempt, the Lady Wildcats held on to win 9-2.
In the bottom of the second the Lady Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, plating three runs. They extended the lead in the second with two more, tacked on another in the fourth and three more in the bottom of the sixty.
Sweetwater managed to bring a pair across in the top of the seventh, but the deficit was too much to overtake. The rally faltered and then sputtered out altogether.
Jordan Tripplet gave a solid start from the mound, only allowing one earned while punching out five Sweetwater batters.
Polk’s other Tripplet had a pretty solid outing too. Lydia Triplett went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double to wrack up five RBIs in the win.
Lilly Cuzzort also went yard for the Lady Wildcats in a 2-for-3 night, knocking in a pair.
Caroline Jenkins got into the blasting party with a homer and accounted for two of Polks runs to round out the scoring.
The Lady Wildcats will kick off the new month with a showdown at Loudon Wednesday with a start time of 5 p.m.
