Yes, the 14th season of this annual fundraiser for arts in education began its traveling roadshow at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce with an “AnTweet” table, a bench and a chair.
These yard-sale bargains and items salvaged from attics and basements represent dozens of items that artists are “tweaking” to donate to the community’s premier effort to raise funds to promote arts activities in our schools and community.
Frankie Conar, who has participated in Chair-ries Jubilee since its inception, is donating an “AnTweet” table that features beautifully captured birds this season. She has painted professionally for 40 years and sells “Folk Art by Frankie” through the Museum Center at Five Points.
Also featured on this roadshow episode is a bench by Ann McCarley, another longtime participant in Chair-ries Jubilee and co-chairman of the planning committee. McCarley “tweaked” her bench for suitability in a little girl’s room or a dressing room.
Jane Finch, also an annual contributor to the auction, is playing “Cat and Mouse” with a chair that would provide perfect occasional seating or an addition to a sun porch. Finch has supported Chair-ries Jubilee since she retired from Michigan Avenue Elementary School.
“These pieces are just a snapshot of the many items that will be auctioned on April 20,” said Nancy Casson, co-chair of the event. “And if you haven’t started on a piece yet, there’s still time for the paint to dry.”
Beginning Friday, the pieces will travel from the Chamber of Commerce to United Community Bank, First Tennessee Bank and Andrew Johnson Bank and arrive at the Museum Center at Five Points in time for the auction.
Bidding will begin in the silent auction at 6 p.m. on April 20, at the Museum Center. The live auction will start at 8 p.m. The event will also feature seven area caterers.
Tickets are on sale now for $20 at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce and The Red Ribbon.
Presented by the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, the Chair-ries Jubilee auction has raised more than $290,000 for arts activities in our schools and community since 2000.
“Investing in arts education in Cleveland and Bradley County will pay significant dividends for our students,” Casson said. “We are grateful that the community responds well to this event every year.”
