Rick Martinez, 57 a resident of McDonald, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at his residence.

He was born in Denver to the late Edward J. Martinez and Josephine Perea Martinez.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army where he served as a specialist 4th class.

He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church, the Harrison Ruritan Club on Highway 58, and a Team National marketing director.

He and his wife, Shelia, moved to McDonald nine years ago from Sweetwater. He was employed with the Chattanooga Heart Institute.

He loved people and people loved to be around him as was evidenced by the many patients he met through his work. He was a gifted guitarist and wonderful husband and companion to Shelia, his wife of 11 years.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Chance-Martinez; three brothers: Paul Martinez of Jacksonville, Fla., Ed (Mae) Martinez and Fred Martinez, all of Denver; a special aunt, Louise Perea; and special uncle, Spike (Helen) Martinez, both of Denver; and a host of other extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Philippi Baptist Church, 2325 Old Harrison Pike, Cleveland, with Dr. Sammy Hooker officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
