The “AnTweaks Roadshow” continued its journey toward the Museum Center at Five Points with a stop at First Tennessee Bank this week.
Added to the traveling collection this week is a birdhouse by folk artist Sam Cheek of Notasulga, Ala. Widely known for his birdhouses, folk art and antique ceiling fans, Cheek used wood for this birdhouse from an old building near Notasulga. He has donated to Chair-ries Jubilee for many years through the Cleveland Tree Board.
Cheek’s birdhouse joins a hand-painted, crackled table by Frankie Conar, a hand-painted occasional chair by Jane Finch, and a painted, stenciled and upholstered stool by Ann McCarley.
This is the 14th season of this annual arts-in-education fundraiser, which is presented by the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce. It has raised more than $290,000 since its inception in 2000.
The funds are used to provide grants in Bradley County and Cleveland City Schools and in Chamber-member private schools through an application process. The money also funds visiting artists to local schools.
“These pieces are just a sample of the many items that will be auctioned on April 20,” said Nancy Casson, co-chair of the event.
Bidding will begin in the silent auction at 6 p.m. on April 20, at the Museum Center. The live auction will start at 8 p.m. The event will also feature 11 area caterers.
Tickets are on sale now for $20 at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce and The Red Ribbon.
