She grew up in Bristol where she graduated from Tennessee High and then attended Virginia Intermont College.
For a short while she modeled in New York and her pictures were on the covers of several magazines, including the Saturday Evening Post. She spent most of her adult life in South Carolina.
She was married to Tom Hammer Sr. for 42 years and upon his passing, had more good years married to Edwin Happ of Aiken, S.C.
She was a dedicated housewife, an avid golfer, and loved animals all her life. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
She moved to Cleveland in 2000 to be near her son, Tom Hammer Jr. and his wife, Gail; other survivors include a grandson, Chris Hammer and his wife, Wendy; and two great-grandchildren, Branson and Bryan, all of whom live in Cleveland.
Out of respect for her wishes there will be no memorial service or visitation.
She will be buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol.
