Myra “Temple” Puett Hammond went to be with the Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

She passed away at her river home peacefully surrounded by family.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and good friend.

She was a member of the Samples Memorial Baptist Church for the past 46 years, she sang gospel for more than 10 years, was a gray lady at Bradley Memorial Hospital, and was a long time member of the American Union bowling League.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Luther Puett; mother. Minnie Sue Barnes Puett; and a brother, Willard Dean Puett.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, H.L. Hammond; son and daughter-in-law, LaVon and Sandy Hammond of Cleveland; son, Lynn Hammond of Ooltewah; grandchildren: Jill, Cody and Austin Hammond, all of Ooltewah and Monica Hammond of Cleveland; sister and brother-in- law, Diane and Ray Barber of Riceville; sister, Pat Puett Higdon of Chickamauga, Ga.; sister-in-law, Karen Puett of Athens; and a very special friend, Lottie Watkins; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the North Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Mark Cameron and the Rev. Lee Ingram officiating.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sunset Memorial Gardens with deacons from Samples Memorial Baptist Church and Cody and Austin Hammond serving as casket bearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
