TULLAHOMA — A pair of Bradley Central Bears and a Cleveland Lady Raider will be headed to the TSSAA State Decathlon/Pentathlon later this month.

Bear standouts James Stovall and Rue Goldston finished one-two in the Region 3-AAA Decathlon Tuesday, while Lady Raider Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad won the region pentathlon Monday.

Winning five of the 10 events, Stovall earned the region crown and a return trip to the Spring Fling with a total of 5,199 points. The all-state football standout who is headed to play for the United States Naval Academy took first in the 100-meter dash (11.48), 110-meter hurdles (16.6), high jump (1.93), triple jump (13.95) and shot put (13.05). He also tied Goldston for second in the long jump (5.58).

Goldston also placed second in the 110-meter dash (11.73) and high jump (1.78), plus tied for second in the shot put with teammate Cydale Goldston with a throw of 10.42. Rue Goldston took the runner-up honors with a 4,889 total.

Cleveland High’s Isiah Beaty and Will Hilliker took third and fourth in the event, posting totals of 4,753 and 4,522 respectively. Bradley’s Cydale Goldston finished seventh in the event, while Raider Michale Palmer took ninth.

In the pentathlon, Abdullah-Muhammad won four of the five events, taking the 100-meter dash in 15.8 seconds, the 800-meter run in 2:34.9, the long jump with a leap of 5.18 meters and th high jump with a best of 1.52 meters. She placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 8.08 meters.

The Lady Raider sophomore outdistanced Riverdale’s Olivia Jones by a 3,024-2,478 margin. Abdullah-Muhammad was the only Bradley County participant in the event.
