CHATTANOOGA — The final chapter was written for the Cleveland State Lady Cougars softball team for the 2012 season Tuesday afternoon on day three of the NJCAA/TCCAA REGION VII softball Tournament as they dropped a 10-2 decision to the Walters State Lady Senators.

The Lady Cougars stayed right with the heavily favored Lady Senators in the early going, but Walters State flexed their considerable muscles to win going away.

The third-seeded Lady Senators struck first in the bottom of the second inning as LaTosha Rectenwald crushed a two-run homer to put her team on top 2-0.

The Lady Cougars came right back to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third frame as Casey Griffin and Amber Covington each singled and then scored on a two-run double by Maura Ditto.

The lead didn't last though as Walters State got those runs back in the bottom of the inning as Lindsey Loudermilk doubled in a run and Courtney Davis added two more with a two-run dinger to push the lead to 5-2.

Walters State put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth with five more runs as Brooke Rhodes provided the big hit with a two-run double to help secure the win.

Lindsey Vaught went the distance for Walters State to get the win while Meghan Smith took the loss for the Lady Cougars.
