Polk County’s Lady Wildcats bounced back after their loss to McMinn Central to beat Sweetwater Tuesday and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Benton’s bats were on fire as Polk peppered the visiting Lady Wildcats for 10 runs in the six-inning win for a final of 10-2.

Sweetwater struck first with a two-out home run that looked ominous for Polk County.

Danielle Harvey got the home team off on the right foot when she blasted a leadoff home run that set the tempo for the game.

Lydia Triplett followed with a double and Sydney Sloan capped things off with a two-RBI tater of her own to put Polk up 3-1 before an out was recorded.

Polk had another big inning in the third when Sloan and Lily Cuzzort drew back-to-back walks, and Caroline Jenkins reached safely on an error to load the bases.

Briana Muller emptied the bags with a towering three-RBI single. Muller was driven in one batter later when Kaitlyn Williams notched an RBI single of her own.

Harvey kept things going, reaching safely for the second time in the inning by knocking a base hit, and Lydia Triplett capped off the inning with a two-out RBI single.

Lydia Triplett started Polk’s final frame with her third base hit of the game. Sloan knocked a single. Cuzzort drove in Triplett with a sacrifice, and Sloan crossed the plate when Sweetwater committed an error.

Sweetwater attempted a rally in the top of the seventh when back-to-back singles led to a run off a sacrifice fly. But, the visiting Lady Wildcats were only able to get one run across to bring the score to the final of 10-2.

Jordan Triplett got the win, going four innings. She allowed a single run on three hits while fanning four Sweetwater batters.

Briana Muller threw the last three innings in relief, holding the visiting Lady Wildcats to two hits while striking out a pair.
