A Thursday afternoon traffic accident has claimed a second life.

Jonathan A. Hembree, 25, of Benton Station died Friday in a Chattanooga hospital from injuries suffered in the crash of two pickup trucks a day earlier on Old Federal Road.

The vehicle in which Hembree was riding struck another pickup, according to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper Gray Gibson. Killed in the accident was Shawn Hall, 33.

Hembree was the only passenger in Hall’s vehicle. The driver of the second pickup was Christopher Wilson, 30, who had three passengers.

According to Trooper Gibson’s report, Hall was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Old Federal Road and crossed the centerline. Hall and Hembree were not using seat belts, according to reports.

The three passengers with Wilson, and the driver, were wearing seat belts.

Six ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with responses from the Bradley County Medical Service, West Polk County Fire and Rescue, McMinn County EMS and Polk County EMS. Members of the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency and Polk Sheriff’s Department were also at the accident site.

Hembree was transported to Erlanger Medical Center’s Trauma Unit by LifeForce from the crash site.
