More than two dozen Waterville Community School students escaped serious injury Friday evening when their bus was involved in an accident on Fork of the River Parkway in Sevierville.

The students were in Sevier County on a field trip.

According to accident reports, the school bus was leaving Pigeon Forge after an afternoon at the Dollywood amusement Park. Two other vehicles reportedly collided in a lane adjacent to the bus and flipped into its path.

Some of the students were shaken up, but mostly frightened by the sudden situation. Following an investigation by Sevierville law enforcement officers, some of the students were taken to the Sevier County Medical Center off U.S. 411 Highway for treatment of minor injuries.

The bus later continued on its return to Cleveland, arriving around midnight.

It was reported the Waterville bus driver swerved to miss most of the damage from the initial crash, but his vehicle still suffered some damage to the driver’s side front end. Sevierville Police officers arrive at the scene just before 7 p.m.

Several Cleveland and Bradley County school groups were in Sevier County for field trips this weekend, celebrating the end of the school year.
