Southern Hollywood Events is working with the film production team for the feature film “42,” the Jackie Robinson story, and needs people to be extras. A special invitation is being made to Cleveland and Bradley County area residents who might have an interest in stepping up for their 15 seconds of fame.
Stars in the film include Harrison Ford, Christopher Meloni of “Law and Order: SVU” and Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Robinson.
Filming will take place at Historic Engel Stadium in Chattanooga starting May 21, according to a SHE press release.
The crew will be filming on May 21, 22, 24 and 25, as well as May 29 through June 1 and June 4 and 6.
The casting agency has said it needs extras of all shapes and sizes to create realistic crowd scenes. There are a few requirements. First, all would-be extras must register online at www.beinthemovie42.com. Spots are limited because the film needs less than 500 extras each day.
Second, extras must make an effort to dress in 1940s attire. According to SHE founder Jessica Brown, one major element of this is wearing contact lenses instead of glasses when possible, because modern-day frames are not styled after those of the day.
For males it means more business dress than is typical at a modern ballgame. For females, it means a simple dress or skirt suit. As the clothing guidelines on the “42” extra casting site says, “The main idea of 1940s fashion is that both men and women always looked dressed up, you didn’t see much in casual clothing as compared to today.” Complete guidelines and visual inspiration are available at http://www.beinthemovie42.com/what-to-wear.html.
Brown said women in the ’40s did not wear a lot of make-up, but red lipstick was popular.
The filming days will also be filled with free food, prizes and contests.
One contest is for the most authentic 1940s attire. Brown said a male and female winner in this contest will be chosen each day. Photos will be posted on the SHE Facebook page of all the extras from the day. To enter the contest, extras must tag themselves in the photo. The prize is a Featured Extra Role in the movie.
Vacation trips to Jamaica and Cancun along with iPads and TVs will be raffled off during the events.
The film is also having a contest to have someone sing the National Anthem for the cast, crew and extras.
Also, every 42nd person to enter the stadium will receive a special behind-the-scenes tour of the filming process.
