Barbara Jean Harvey, 76, formerly of Cleveland and currently of Kingston, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, in a Maryville health care facility.
She was born June 19, 1935, to Virgil and Nell Dockery.
She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church and enjoyed her time there as a member of the Ladies Sunday school class. She also greatly enjoyed her work with the Foster Grandparents Program, helping to care for and provide love and attention to young children in the local area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Dockery and Nellie Mae White Dockery; her husband, Powell Harvey; brother, Gary Milton Dockery; and grandson, Kameron Sewell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory one son, Kelvin Douglas Gibson and wife, Peggy, of Kingston; two daughters: Vanessa Gaye Waters and husband, Charles “Fuzz,” and Valerie Lynn Swafford and husband, Scott, all of Cleveland; grandsons: Jeremiah Gibson and wife, Misty, of Knoxville and Samuel Sewell and wife, Stephanie, of Cleveland; great-grandsons: Preston Gibson and Gavin Sewell.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Weaver officiating. Her ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony by the family following the service.
The family will receive friends at Galilee Baptist Church prior to the memorial service beginning at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Galilee Baptist Church Building Fund, 665 Old Chattanooga Pike, Cleveland TN 37311.
