Helen Shelton “Nanny” Clark, 87, a lifelong resident of McMinn County and the Calhoun community, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in a local hospital.
She was retired from Central Service Association with over 32 years of service.
After retirement she provided childcare for many of the children in the Calhoun community, all of whom affectionately called her Nanny. She loved children, cooking and quilting baby quilts.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Lula Bacon Shelton. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Sharp; a grandson, Joey Michael; and a granddaughter, Melissa Hershey.
She was a longtime member of Calhoun First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters: Johnnie Ruth Michaels and her husband, Gordon, of Southport, Fla., Ann Leamon and her husband, Rick, of Riceville, and Janice Clark of Calhoun; grandchildren and spouses: Rick and Bonnie Michaels, Jerry and Jennifer Michaels, Jamey and Stacie Franks and Jon and Karen Franks; stepgranddaughter, Denean Robinson; a grandson by choice, Richard Skipper and his wife, Jenny; great-grandchildren: Makayla Michaels, Reagan Michaels, Colin Michaels, Chipper Franks, Kara Franks and Jake Franks; a much anticipated great-granddaughter Franks; stepgreat-grandchildren: Madison Robinson and Cami Bartlett, great-grandchildren by choice: Kaylee and Hayden Skipper; three sisters: Mary Hybarger of Cleveland, Dorothy Eaves of Florence Ala., and Grace Thompson of Yellow Springs, Ohio; brother, Henry Shelton of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held 8 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the North Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Pastor Kevin Cheatham officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m Sunday in the cemetery of the Calhoun First Baptist church.
The family will receive friends Saturday, 4 until 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
