The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has released the 2012 Tennis Scholar-Athletes, honoring four Lee tennis players with the national academic award. An athlete must be a junior or above in academic standing with a GPA of 3.5 higher in order to be named NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Men’s tennis seniors Michael Hewgley, Renan Molineiro and Michael Yokosuk were each given the honor for the second consecutive year, also being named Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) All-Academic earlier this season.

Sophomores Richard Gamble and Andre Ishida also earned the conference academic honor, with Yokosuk named the Flames’ representative on the Musco Lighting Champions of Character Team.

Stephanie Todd is the lone Lady Flames player named as NAIA Scholar-Athlete, her second such award in 2011-2012, winning the honor as a member of the volleyball team this past fall. Todd was also named Second Team All-Conference, joined by freshman Christy North.

Sophomore Annie Sandberg was named SSAC All-Academic, along with Todd, and senior Kelsey Gray was named to the Musco Lighting Champions of Character Team.
