Ross Whitney, 69, a resident of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday morning May 23, 2012, in a Cleveland health care facility.
He was born on July 13, 1942, in Athens, son of the late Ralph Whitney and Bessie Whitney McClianahan.
In his early adult life, he moved to Ohio and spent the majority of life there before relocating back to this area approximately two years ago to be near his children.
He was a commercial truck driver by trade before retiring. He was an avid animal lover and outdoorsman enjoying camping, fishing, and softball.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Ann Whitney.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory one daughter and son-in-law, Tressia and Brad Ayers of Cleveland; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathy Whitney of Athens; one sister, Cynthia Taylor and husband Steve of Alabama; four grandchildren: Brandan Whitney, Jocelyn Whitney, Christopher Whitney and Matthew Whitney; one great-granddaughter, Madison Whitney; the mother of his children, Betty Darrnell of Old Fort; and a host of extended family members and friends.
The family will hold a private memorial celebration at a later date.
